Good morning all,
I was standing in line at my neighborhood supermarket’s 10-items or less check out line hoping to be in and out in the flutter of a humming bird’s wing. The clerk, Gertrude, was greeting everyone with a smile, and engaged each customer in instant perception conversation as she waived each item over the barcode scanner in a rhythm that would make a Olympic gymnast envious. I was next in line and the smell of the spicy chicken wings that I had picked up, on a whim, were permeating my nostrils to the point to where my mouth was watering like the fountain outside of Caesars Palace. Then suddenly, I heard Trudy, that’s what she told the previous customer to call her, ask the young man for his control number. This peaked my interest, so I inched forward to hear more like an uninvited listener into a private conversation at a dinner party. I was quickly educated and so was the young man. Trudy skillfully explained to him that after you send money via a wire transfer there is a unique ten-digit number assigned that is identified as your tracking number. He needed that number to collect what was owed to him. Too many times in life, we want what is owed to us, but we don’t have a control number; we want something for nothing. In our careers we sometimes want the promotion without putting in the effort, in our relationships we want to be loved unconditionally without showing unconditional love, and too often we want respect in our community without totally respecting others. In recovery, my specialty, we too many times want the breakthrough of living a drug and alcohol free life, without attending meetings, helping others, giving back, or sharing testimonies which we know are paramount in our quest for serenity. What is your control number and could you cash it in today for what’s owed to you?
Pres, This is a Great Blog Thanks So Much for Your Ability to be So Transparent…. You’ve made my mouth water for your Book like Your description of the Spicy Chicken Wings and the Fountain outside of Caesars Palace….Lol .. Awesome Writing Skills!
Pastor Thorpe, as you well know…..When your vision comes from God, He’ll give you the strength, wisdom, connections, relationships, and resources to make it happen because he’s “THE author and finisher of our faith”…
Thanks Richard, I know that no one owes me anything in life. I do know that you get out of life what you give and for that reason only I try on a daily basis to lend myself to be a blessing to someone else. That’s how I receive my blessings!
I am with you Renise. Many say that the only thing assured in this life is death and taxes. Being a blessing to others is what we are on earth for; existing for oneself is a sure one way street to despair. I love what you are doing for others and in return you are blessed. Thanks for your comments, they are inspirational to my readers.
Very interesting question, what is owed to you. ? Sometimes in life you do feel like something is owed to you, even if it’s just an understanding. This life we lived and the world as it is leaves me with many questions and few answers,…maybe my answers can be found in Serenity Granted. …..peace my brother
Thanks for your comments Ronald, they are very insightful to say the least. Life does tend to leave us with more questions than answers. I think understanding is something that is defined by the individual and its sometimes hard to put in words; like the definition of love. There are many answers to be found in my book, we are always closer to a breakthrough than a breakup so keep reading.
Preston,
You have a gift with words and your statement at the end reminds me of a verse: “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked” Luke 12:48. So at the the end of day even though we may not want to, we must continue to press on! Thats a hard pill to swallow. Looking forward to reading Serenity Granted.
Ben
That is so true Ben. In James 3:13 it states, “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” A good perspective of your quote from Luke 12:48 comes from most small business owners in America. They all work harder now that they have their own business, than they ever did working 9-5. Ben you are an inspiration to others so keep writing my friend.
Uncle Richard,
This is going to be a great success! It’s all coming from your heart!
Rodney
Thanks nephew! Sometimes many of us have the head knowledge and we tend to forget what is truly important, the heart knowledge. I tried for years, unsuccessfully I might add, to win people over with my head. Heart knowledge cannot be taught; it is instilled, it cannot be bought; it is acquired, and it cannot be faked; it is genuine.
