Good morning everyone,

The word crisis can best be defined as an intense difficulty, trouble, or danger; or a time when a difficult or important decision must be made.  When Mary Barra, new chief executive of General Motors, was just a few weeks into her tenure, the company was forced to recall 1.6 million small cars to fix faulty ignition switches linked to fatal crashes.  Mary’s career could have gone up in flames like unattended ribs left on a gas grill at a July 4th cookout.  But, by treating people fairly, holding herself accountable-and letting a few go along the way-she made it as clear as a Tiffany’s crystal vase that her priorities were as straight as a slither of sunlight peeking through the curtains on a sunny day.  Mary’s thinking was a catalyst for change and has propelled General Motors back to a profitable and viable company.  Sometimes in our lives its difficult to do what Mary did; treat people fairly, rid ourselves of people that are holding us back like a ninth grade student with a .00001 grade point average, or when at the crossroads of life; we continue to take the same path.  Crisis is also the turning point of a disease when an important change takes place, indicating either recovery or death.  I had to make the choice 11 years ago to live or die from the disease of addiction.  In the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous we, addicts, are assured of jails, institutions or death and I was closing in on the trifecta with a winning ticket that couldn’t be cashed in.  How many of us are struggling with a crisis?  Sometimes they can sneak up on us as quiet as a tongue-tied librarian in a hybrid car and at other times they hit us harder than a grand piano being dropped from a 30-story building. Like Mary, how many of our associates do we have to recall?  Can we be more accountable?  How many of our friends do we have to let go before there is a turning point in whatever is ailing, crippling, stagnating, or keeping us down.  How do we make our life more profitable, viable, meaningful?  Chime in, I look forward to reading what you have to say; Lets’ grow together, and as usual, I will respond to every comment!
